Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is arguably the best club leader in the world right now, more so given how he has handled the coronavirus losses.
Los Blancos are one of the only clubs in Europe to have reported a surplus of cash despite stadiums being shut for fans and other activities being halted as well over the better part of the last two calendar years.
The last two summers were also not the only ones in which Perez did not make a big signing. Some of the world’s best players have even slipped out of his own hands over the last several years.
Which three players does the Real Madrid incumbent regret not signing to date?
With Paul Pogba more likely to be on his way out of Manchester United than not, Real Madrid is likely to be his next destination as per the bookies. The Frenchman has not lived up to the hype at Old Trafford but it is very clear that with the French national side, he has the motivation to do unearthly things. Pogba has been among their best players since the 2018 World Cup.
Although he may regret not making a move for the World Cup winner in the past, especially while he was on the verge of a move to England, that surely was a blessing in disguise for Madrid as Juventus demanded 120 million euros and Toni Kroos in the deal. Kroos is now arguably the best midfielder in the world whereas Pogba’s attitude has been questioned nearly every week.
But nonetheless, he would have been Mino Raiola’s client at the club from earlier on and the relationship with the Italian agent may have helped Madrid procure Erling Haaland in priority. Kroos and the 120 million euros are still in the possession of the Merengues, but Pogba’s signing five years prior could have certainly given the club an all-new look on several fronts.
