Chelsea have been linked with a move for the “Swedish Wayne Rooney ” as their hunt for defensive reinforcements goes on.

The Blues could need new faces at the back come next month’s January transfer window with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta currently set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Those potential departures have led to the Stamford Bridge outfit being linked with several signings, including Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt.

While his agent may have given Chelsea a boost in their pursuit of the Netherlands defender, another centre-back appears to be going nowhere.

Gleison Bremer blow

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to reports.

Reports last week suggested Bremer’s arrival at Stamford Bridge was “perhaps imminent” and that he could arrive in January.

But Torino president Urbano Cairo has now downplayed reports suggesting his star man is about to leave Italy, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness ].

Cairo said: “Absolutely not, I never thought of selling Bremer in January. Absolutely not.

“Gleison Bremer is one of our players. For the moment, I have not spoken to anyone: Bremer is ours, he remains with us for the whole of the campaign. We will see…”

De Ligt is “ready for new step”

Matthijs de Ligt is open to leaving Juventus, it has been reported.

Chelsea have been widely tipped to make moves for the Holland centre-back as a potential replacement for Antonio Rudiger.

The Juventus star would command a hefty transfer fee, however, having arrived in Turin for £63m in 2019.

But according to the player’s agent Mino Raiola, the player is “ready” to leave the Italian giants.

Chelsea could swoop for the “Swedish Wayne Rooney”, it is claimed.

According to reports, the Blues have sent scouts to watch FC Copenhagen’s 16-year-old forward Roony Bardghji, who command a fee in the region of £8-11.5 million.

According to Goal [via Football.London ] the Stamford Bridge outfit are chasint the signature of the right-winger, who came through the Malmo academy before joining Copenhagen in 2020, where he made his senior debut just last month.

Football.London reports that the youngster became the youngest goalscorer in Danish Superliga history just a week after making his debut, earning him comparisons with England icon Wayne Rooney

The report adds that Bayern Munich, Ajax and Barcelona also in the race for Bardghji’s signature, with more clubs set to follow.
