Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos said that it would have been easier, if Twitter had an office in Nigeria, to settle the current Twitter ban issued by the Buhari administration.
In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, the Governor made the proposal.
Mr Sanwo-Olu said it could not be clear whether the federal government is acting incorrectly or correctly against Twitter because it has no predictions like the president. He claimed that the administration had only stopped operations on Twitter in Nigeria instead of banning it outright.
He advised that Twitter and the government should come together to settle the issue instead of allowing them to degenerate further into economic detriment.
“On both sides, there are issues that can be resolved between Twitter and the Government.
So in the period of suspension let us sit down. If we have 40 million users of micro-blogging user and they chose to take their investment to country with five million users, it speaks to the reason why we also need to have that conversation with them so that perhaps if they have an office here things would have been done along quicker and better,” he said.
In recent news, the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that the Federal Government could have found better ways to handle the use of Twitter in the country.
The governor of Lagos said the FG should take the economic impact of the ban into consideration in a chat with Arise TV on Monday 7th June.
