The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two ladies for allegedly using hijab to hide about 296,000 tablets of illegal drugs.
The arrest was made by the operatives of in Benue State with the suspects identified as Chioma Afam, 36, and 22-year-old Chidinma Caleb.
Per what we gathered, they were arrested while trying to smuggle the drugs that included Diazepam and Exol-5 from Onitsha, Anambra State to Gombe State.
One of the ladies, Chioma reportedly used multiple names such as Amina, Uzoamaka and Ifunaya to cover her criminal activities and on her part, she was arrested on Saturday July 17, 2021.
The agency indicated that both suspects wear hijab as a cover for their criminal activities and they were unlucky when they were arrested during routine checks and profiling of inward vehicles into Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The vehicle in which they were seated was coming from Onitsha, Anambra State and it was intercepted along Makurdi Alliade road while heading to Gombe State.
A search of their vehicle led to the discovery of 43kilograms of Diazepam and 33kg of Exol-5, both weighing 76 kilograms with a total of 296,000 tablets packed in four large Ghana must go bags.
