Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admits he “doesn’t care” about rivals Tottenham appointing Antonio Conte as their new manager.

The Italian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at Spurs earlier this month and many believe he can end the club’s 14-year wait for silverware.

Conte won four Serie A titles, the Premier League and FA Cup – among other trophies – during his time at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus.

Tottenham supporters are also hoping their new manager can maintain the club’s Premier League dominance over Arsenal in the coming years.

The Gunners haven’t finished above their local rivals since the 2015-16 campaign when they pipped Spurs on the final day of the season.

Aubameyang, though, insists he’s not bothered about Conte’s arrival in London and is only focusing on Arsenal’s bid for European qualification.

When asked for his thoughts on the Italian’s appointment, Aubameyang laughed and said: “I don’t care! I’ll be honest, I really don’t care.

“Like, that’s not my problem. Really. No worries, [we’re going to back ourselves] for sure, 100 per cent.”

Aubameyang also opened up on his failed transfer to Spurs in 2012, insisting he’d rather “retire” than join Conte’s team.

He added: “I would retire, even more because a few years ago I was close to signing for Tottenham and at the end I don’t know what they did…

“I was at Saint-Etienne if I’m not wrong, or at the beginning at Dortmund, I don’t remember exactly. I came to [the training ground], I went to the stadium as well at White Hart Lane.

“The day after they just never gave an answer, they never called back, so I was like, ‘Okay, no worries.'”

Although Aubameyang isn’t worried about Conte’s arrival at Tottenham, Harry Kane is delighted to welcome him on board.

The England skipper wanted to leave Spurs during the summer but is now happy to stay at the club following the appointment.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Kane said: “The type of player I am, I always work hard and train hard, always want to improve. The new manager coming in is very much about improving players.

“I’m sure we’ll have a great relationship. I’m looking forward to getting to know him more and getting to work under him more.

“Hopefully, we can start turning things around quick for the team and start getting better results.”

Conte’s first two games at Tottenham saw the team beat Vitesse Arnhem 3-2 in the Europa Conference League but fail to score against Everton in a goalless Premier League draw.

Speaking after the latter game, the Italian said: “Today I have seen the heart of my players, the passion, the will to fight, the will to sacrifice.

Who’s been Arsenal best player this season so far? Have your say!

“The will to understand that there was a moment very, very difficult for us and to see this type of reaction make me more confident for the future.

“Sometimes you can teach to our players the tactical aspects and improve your players’ physical aspects but the heart, the passion, the will, the intensity, you have or not.

“My players are showing me these aspects and that we are in a good position and it is a good point to start for me.”
